Gripple Limited, manufacturer of the unique Gripple wire joiner, is the national winner of the Achievement in International Business in the British Chambers of Commerce Awards 2007.

Gripple - a member of Sheffield Chamber of Commerce and Industry - won the Royal Bank of Scotland-sponsored award because the judges were impressed by the company's record of overseas growth To date more than 260 million Gripples have been sold to 85 countries worldwide and between 2003 and 2006 the company's international sales grew by 53 per cent, with exports representing 80 per cent of the company's GBP21m turnover

The company's growth was achieved by combining the launch of innovative products, progressive investment in new markets and strengthening their market position in key overseas markets.

Nigel Mills, from RBS Invoice Finance, said: "Gripple won this award following a unanimous decision by the judges.

The company has taken a product from the agricultural industry into construction and then around the world.

With a manufacturing operation in the US and representation in Europe, Dubai and Australia, Gripple is now a truly global company with the majority of sales coming from outside the UK.

"Making a success of your business in your local community or the UK is tough enough but extending that into international markets takes courage and skill and I congratulate Gripple on its achievement.

Export markets are all too often an untapped business opportunity.

You have shown what can be achieved".

The National Winners of Chamber Awards 2007 were announced at a gala dinner at the Victoria and Albert Museum, London in November.

Mark Edmonds, managing director of Gripple, said: "We are delighted and proud that our determined and ongoing efforts to develop our overseas business have been recognised nationally.

Our profitable worldwide business is based on our 'can do' culture.

This strategy, which also aims to speak to our overseas customers in their native language, demonstrates that a customer-focused manufacturer of widgets can not only compete with foreign competitors but leave them standing!".
