This significant construction project is worth in excess of £5 million to GSE.
The company's combined capabilities in groundworks, concreting and specialised steel reinforcement structures, as well as haulage and plant, provided the lead-contractor, HBG Construction, with a company able to meet its requirements across a range of activities.
GSE BandCE's team will be on site during the first week of March to begin preparing the site.
During the summer months the underground systems, foundations, slab and frame work are scheduled for completion.
As the development is a brown field site, an in-depth remediation strategy has been developed to remove and reclaim all material to a local facility, with the possibility of re-using some of the material back on the site in the form of hardcore and tarmac for the road surfaces.
Derek Gilburt, managing director, GSE BandCE stated.
"Our proposal to HBG Construction detailed how GSE Group would integrate the building needs at this first stage of the Bouverie Place construction, to the benefit of the main contractor.
Gilburt continued, "We are a local construction business and understand the requirements of the locality, such as minimising disruption to residents".
Over the coming months, some 7,476 cubic metres of concrete will be poured to create the foundations of the centre, with a further 5,370 cubic metres poured for the floor slabs and frame.
These will be reinforced with steel rods, creating an intricate frame from which the new shopping centre will take shape.
As the site is adjacent to the main road at Middelburg Square, stainless steel reinforcement will be used in the formwork when building the retaining walls for the centre to comply with the strict highways regulations.
Hand over of the site to HBG will take place in spring 2007.
