Homeowners will pay more for better sound proofing
New survey reveals that many homeowners are worried by the level of intrusive noise in their properties and would be prepared to pay more for a better sound proofed house.
Industry agreement to increase gypsum recycling
Plasterboard manufacturers in Great Britain have signed up to trailblazing agreement that is set to bring significant reduction in amount of waste plasterboard sent to landfill.
It will focus on the efficiency of drywall in meeting the latest Building Regulations requirements and also explain how even higher standards can readily be achieved at relatively small cost.
Says Crispin Dunn-Meynell of the GPDA: "Today's drywall systems offer an extremely cost-efficient means of creating high performance wall linings, partitions and ceilings".
"They are the preferred option for a very significant percentage of housebuilders and we hope the new campaign will draw homeowners' attention to the benefits offered not only in terms of sound insulation but also in relation to layout versatility".
"We want home purchasers, self-builders and those involved in extension and refurbishment projects to appreciate that, with today's systems, performance not only meets but can readily exceed the requirements of the Building Regulations." In the longer term, GPDA hopes buyers will increasingly regard aspects of performance like privacy from neighbours and between rooms within a property as just as important as a stylish kitchen or bathroom.
This, in turn, will not only add to the appeal of homes with the latest drywall systems installed but support a move to the adoption of ever higher specification standards in the future.
The campaign centres on making information widely available through the media and will also include the publication of new literature on the sound performance of drywall systems targeting the home purchaser.
GPDA represents the principal manufacturers of drywall systems: British Gypsum, Gypsum Industries, Knauf and Lafarge Plasterboard.
