Roofing products group Hambleside Danelaw has won this year's gold Green Apple award for its sustainable approach to manufacturing at its plant in Inverness.

In an awards ceremony at the Houses of Parliament, the famous botanist David Bellamy on behalf of the Green Organisation praised the group for adopting the rigorous 'Planet Positive' standards in producing building materials that help achieve a sustainable, economical and responsible method of reducing carbon emissions Awards organiser Roger Wolens added: "Hambleside Danelaw did particularly well to triumph against some very strong competition"

After receiving the award, Robin Jeffery, Hambleside's vice chairman, said: "We are delighted that our continued growth in Inverness on a sustainable basis is being recognised".

"Hambleside Danelaw is hoping that more contractors and building occupiers will support the construction of buildings designed and built to minimise the impact on the environment".

Hambleside Danelaw has also moved into a new state-of-the-art factory in Daventry which incorporates the very best in environmental management systems.

The new facility features the group's Insulator rooflights across approximately 20% of the roof area which allows for considerable reduction in energy costs.

The rooflights are insulated using an 80mm transparent honeycomb core, also manufactured by the company in Daventry, to provide a U value of 0.8 W/mK.

In addition, the enhanced levels of natural light coming through reduces the need for artificial lighting, further cutting energy costs.
