Hanovia provides UV disinfection for pools

A Hanovia product story
Edited by the Buildingtalk editorial team Nov 16, 2009

Hanovia UV disinfection systems have been installed in two indoor swimming pools at the Royal Russell School in Surrey.

Since the installation of the UV system, the school has seen an improvement in water and air quality.

There has also been a significant reduction in chemical usage.

The water treatment system required an upgrade due to increased bather loads year on year which eventually surpassed the pools' original design load capacity.

A UV system was chosen because of the improved disinfection it offers, and because it eliminates the chlorine smell and sore eyes caused by chloramines.

Chloramines are also known as combined chlorines and are chemicals formed when chlorine combines with the organic compounds deriving from human use of the water.

Chloramines are corrosive of metal building structures.

UV can also lower TDS (Total Dissolved Solids) levels, which are difficult to control with a chemical only pool treatment system.

High TDS or chloramine levels often cause water to be cloudy and murky.

UV is highly effective against Cryptosporidium, a microorganism that is notoriously resistant to chlorine.

The Hanovia UV disinfection system reduces running costs and offers easier operation.
