Hanson Formpave doubles paving production capacity as business expands.

Hanson Formpave, a leading manufacturer of standard and specialist concrete block pavers, permeable pavers, kerb systems and ancillaries, has commenced construction work on a new plant that will more than double its current paving production capacity As part of a multi-million pound Hanson Building Products investment programme, the new block paving production unit will be built at Whatley in Somerset, providing an additional production facility to Formpave's factory in Coleford, Gloucestershire

The requirement for further production capability is due to the success of the Formpave paving brands, in particular the company's flagship Aquaflow permeable paving SUDS solution where demand has increased significantly following a record number of specifications in 2007.

Parent company, Hanson Building Products, has moved quickly to meet this business increase and as a result the plant will start production in 2008.

The factory will boast state-of-the-art machinery and technology and be the most cost-effective production unit of its kind in the UK, encompassing many of the sustainability initiatives that Hanson Building Products endorses across all its business operations.

Commenting on the expansion programme Brian Garratt, managing director at Hanson Formpave, said, "This additional capacity has been required for some time and will enable Formpave to fulfil the market potential for our innovative paving range - particularly the high demand for our Aquaflow SUDS permeable paving solution".

"With the volume of specifications we have throughout 2007, we will certainly require two production facilities to meet market demands".

The new plant will be located in one of Hanson's largest, established quarries, and this, coupled with the on-site railhead facility, will significantly minimise all lorry movements, allowing Formpave to economically and environmentally serve its markets.

The new site will create around 20 new jobs across production, administration and sales functions.

The main administration will continue to be based at the Coleford headquarters site.

Hanson Formpave is exhibiting at EcoBuild 2007, where their range of products including the new EcoGranite range, the flagship Aquaflow range, Chartres range and Clifton range will be showcased.
