HBXL prescribes pain relief for self
builders

HBX encouraging builders to look at 'Health and Safety Xpert' that will greatly assist all self builders become compliant with new Construction Design Management (CDM) regulations.

The introduction of the new Construction Design Management (CDM) regulations that came into force in April 2007 means that self builders, as well as professional builders, now have to adhere to the new laws or face the possibility of a heavy fine or worse a jail sentence With the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) now making thousands of random site inspections every year, making sure that building sites are safe has become even more important

The new regulations are fundamentally different to the previous CDM 1994 regulations in that parts 2 and 4 apply to all building work.

This means that even small domestic projects and work not exceeding 30 working days or 500 person days will require those in charge to ensure all health and safety is applied according to CDM 2007 (parts 2 and 4).

As a result all building projects will now need to be organised, planned and managed, with greater emphasis on health and safety competence.

For projects that are built to make a profit and take over 30 working days or 500 person days to build, there are even more rules to apply including parts 2, 3, and 4 of CDM 2007.

Anthony Botibol, marketing manager at HBXL said: "It's difficult enough for professional builders to know where to start when it comes to health and safety, so self builders will have to be extra vigilant".

"The new CDM 2007 means that self builders now have a legal obligation to demonstrate that they take their responsibilities seriously and that they have done as much as is reasonably practicable to safe guard those working on site as well as the general public.

"If the HSE finds a self builder has not complied, then the implications are very serious ranging from fines, the shutting down of a site, criminal prosecutions and in some cases prison sentences." Fortunately HBXL has developed a package that will allow self builders keep right up to speed with all their health and safety obligations.

Called Health and Safety Xpert, it will save them huge amounts of time, quickly guiding them through the crucial paper work that's required under current UK law.

All users have to do is tell Health and Safety Xpert what they are building and it simply does the rest, automatically producing Health and Safety Policies, Risk Assessments, COSHH Assessments, Construction Phase Health and Safety Plans, Site Rules, forms required by the HSE, and many more essential documents.

As there is virtually no typing required, self builders can spend more time actively making sure their project runs to plan.
