With the majority of manufacturers expected to put up material prices by 10% in the New Year, builders are being advised to factor this into any new estimates and quotes.

The warning comes from Anthony Botibol, marketing manager at HBXL, the building software specialist company, who says that builders who don't review their material prices will stand to lose vital profits in 2008 Anthony said: "With most builders operating off very tight profit margins, to lose a further percentage could be catastrophic

It's therefore vital they factor the likely increase in material prices now so that any new quotes include the rise.

"Some builders take days or even weeks getting their prices right ready for estimating.

In addition most estimating software packages require the user to input all material prices which takes a huge amount of time and impacts on profits".

Fortunately builders wanting to ensure their estimates are totally accurate can use HBXL's EstimatorXpress estimating software which includes a unique live material price link to over 350,000 products.

This means all prices are right up to date and that all estimates incorporate any price rises, including the probable 10% rise in the New Year.

It also avoids the arduous process and time consuming task of sourcing key material prices from suppliers.

Anthony added: "Builder's are busy enough as it is without having to worry about phoning the merchants for all their key prices.

EstimatorXpress does away with this completely and updates any changes instantly.

Builders can therefore rest assured all new quotes in the New Year will maintain a healthy margin".
