HellermannTyton has added to its RapidNet family of pre-terminated cabling solutions with the introduction of a new shielded system, to compliment existing unshielded (UTP) and fibre versions.

HellermannTyton extends its pre-terminated offering with a new shielded version of RapidNet HellermannTyton has added to its RapidNet family of pre-terminated cabling solutions with the introduction of a new shielded system, to compliment existing unshielded (UTP) and fibre versions Shielded RapidNet is an innovative, standards compliant, fully patented pre-terminated, pre-tested and pre-labelled 'plug and play' shielded cabling system which does not require on-site termination

Designed around a unique cassette system, shielded RapidNet dramatically reduces installation time by as much as 85% with no compromise to system quality and reliability.

Shielded systems protect data from potentially damaging electromagnetic interference (EMI) by surrounding the cable with a protective foil to block out unwanted signals that could adversely affect the operation of the device or system.

Installations where shielded systems are often used include industrial facilities and airports or those running mission critical systems, such as military installations, banks and hospitals.

In hospitals the use of a shielded network protects data from interference from equipment such as x-ray machines and MRI scanners.

Many UK banks are also looking towards shielded systems as part of their specifications to provide the highest possible levels of protection against potential downtime and business disruption thanks to shielded system's enhanced immunity and lower emissions compared to an equivalent UTP system.

Shielded cables and connectors are typically more labour intensive and time consuming to install than standard UTP cabling.

Traditional methods for terminating and dressing a 42u cabinet containing 28 X 24 port patch panels, would typically take more than 50 man hours on a shielded system.

By contrast, using shielded RapidNet, the same task takes less than 1.5 hours.

Over an entire installation, for example from communications room to workstation, shielded RapidNet can reduce the total installation time by as much as 85%.

"RapidNet is fast becoming the industry standard for pre-terminated cabling.

With our new shielded version we now offer customers a complete solution to their cabling requirements", comments David Gagel, Sales and Marketing Director, HellermannTyton.

"As well as meeting the specific demand for shielded systems in France and Germany, shielded RapidNet's high quality design and efficiency makes it an ideal application for specialist shielded installations in the UK".

Mr Gagel continues: "As an end-to-end solution all versions of RapidNet are ideal for use in traditional flood wiring projects, communications rooms, data centres, workstation environments or any time critical installation where every hour counts and quality is a pre-requisit.

RapidNet is unique in the industry, enabling the cabling installer and end-customers to reduce installation windows by up to 85%, and critically, to reduce risk with termination and testing taking place prior to the system ever reaching its final installed state".

The new Shielded RapidNet system is produced under stringent ISO9001-2000 quality control in the HellermannTyton manufacturing facility in Northampton.

The system is fully component compliant to Category 6 specification and has been fully tested with HellermannTyton's Category 6 RapidNet cable to meet the current ISO/IEC Class E - 2000 link and channel requirements.

Shielded Rapid is also backed by HellermannTyton's 25-year full system warranty.
