Hewden, the UK's largest plant-hirer, is supplying rental equipment for Florida-based PandH Mining Equipment's decommissioning project of the 'Ace of Spades' dragline excavator.

Hewden's equipment is being used to dismantle the crane and ship it from Tyne and Wear to America, where it will be rebuilt ready for its next job The 'Ace of Spades' dragliner is currently the largest open cast mine crane in Europe

With the jib fully erect, the dragline stands 22 stories tall, is 400 ft long and weighs a massive 5700 tons - the equivalent of two-and-a-half times the weight of the London Eye.

The equipment going on hire from Hewden includes tower lighting, accommodation units, compressors, and articulated booms, which will be supplied over a minimum six month period.

The dragline is currently standing in the Stobswood open cast mine in Northumberland and will be ready for shipping to Dallas-based organisation North American Coal Corporation, in the next couple of months.

Mark Hierons, Head of Cranes at Hewden added, "We are on a tight deadline to get the dragline ready to be shipped to the USA, but we're confident in the knowledge that we have the best equipment and the best people available to do so.".
