Three more construction companies have made the decision to outsource their training and development needs RR Richardson plc at Beckenham, Kent is the latest to be using training management specialists Helmsman to co-ordinate and administer all aspects of training as well as helping it gain Investors in People (IIP) status

Helmsman's expertise in the construction industry will also be used by Con-Form Contracting remediation and surfacing subcontractors at Maldon in Essex; and Benson Northern Home Counties, a Hatfield, Hertfordshire part of the Benson Group.

For the past six years, Helmsman has been establishing its reputation in helping construction companies improve their efficiency and profitability through better training and skills development.

Operating in many instances as an external training department for construction and housebuilding companies, Helmsman's understanding of the complexities of the Construction Industry Training Board (CITB) grants system ensures that their clients get the maximum return on their Training Levy.

The major attraction that Helmsman offers for construction businesses is that it can usually cover its own costs to the client.

In all cases, Helmsman ensures that clients meet essential training and development needs whilst maximising the CITB grants.

Tony Willson, Managing Director of Helmsman said: "We remove a lot of the obstacles that can make training and development difficult to implement.

At the same time we make sure clients get the advantages of all of the CITB grants to which they are entitled." Based on previous experience of helping construction companies gain IIP, Helmsman will be aiming for an outcome that benefits both the corporate and the hands-on building aspects at RR Richardson in Beckenham, Kent.

Mr Willson added: "We understand the practicalities of running a building business so we set out to overcome the perception that IIP is just Oanother initiative.

We bring clients benefits which include better staff retention, productivity and less waste in time, materials and money which are essential today when the emphasis is on partnering and co-operation." Clients of Essex-based Helmsman include Countryside Properties which continually wins top industry awards.

These have included twice winning Best Training/People Development award and twice being among the Times Top 100 Best Companies to Work For.
