Hewlett is celebrating another first after being nominated as approved contractor for package of works at Sterling Capitol's latest business park development in Barnsley.

Leeds-based Hewlett is celebrating another first after being nominated as approved contractor for package of works at Sterling Capitol's latest business park development in Barnsley The GBP3 million bulk excavation and infrastructure contract at the 36-acre site in Dodworth (Junction 37 of the M1 motorway) includes road works, ground re-contouring, levelling and drainage

"This is our first job with Sterling Capitol and we are keen to prove our experience and reputation," comments Chris Stacey, Managing Quantity Surveyor for Hewlett.

"Our experience in both bulk excavation and infrastructure means that the client has been able to call on a 'single source' for the entire operation, thus limiting the need for interface and management of a number of traditional contractors." Following an initial archaeological investigation and demolition of a number of existing buildings, work has commenced including a 120,000m3 cut and fill operation to create four construction plateaux for the development of 3,500m3 volume concrete tank to house surface water drainage.

Further infrastructure tasks include 1,900m2 of adoptable roads, 900m2 of footpaths, plus trench and utilities ductwork.

Work is due for completion in February 2006, and upon completion the scheme will offer high quality flexible hybrid facilities in addition to hotel accommodation and a public house.
