Celcon aircrete blocks with Thin-Joint technology have been chosen for a state-of-the-art, GBP6.2m Operational Support Building for Hertfordshire Constabulary at Welwyn Garden City.
1,300 sq m of 140 mm Celcon blocks are being used to provide the inner skin infilling of the steel-framed main building and plant room.
Thin-jointed aircrete plays an important part in maintaining the airtight properties of this building and Celfix quick-setting mortar is helping to speed the construction process.
The new centre is a landmark, purpose-built emergency service call centre which has already attracted interest from other forces and emergency services.
It will provide an efficient, comfortable environment for staff working around the clock.
Design and construction is flexible and extendable to ensure a degree of 'future proofing'.
Contractors are Banner Holdings and the brickwork sub-contractor is Fieldcrown.
WS Atkins is responsible for the architectural and performance design for this complex and innovative building.
The project will be completed by the end of this year.
