Celcon Flooring System is saving time and cutting insulation requirements on a major housing project in Birmingham.

The Celcon Flooring System is saving time and cutting insulation requirements on a major project to provide 33 two, three and four bed houses at Bucklands End, Birmingham for Waterloo Housing Association in partnership with the City of Birmingham It provides a fast and effective method of installing ground floors with all the benefits of a suspended floor and all the attributes of aircrete

Elements up to 6m long can be craned into position and, once grouted create a secure, level platform that can be built from immediately.

The system was chosen for the Bucklands End project because it is an element of a Modern Method of Construction (MMC) and attracts Housing Corporation funding.

Comments Peter Butler, construction manager of Jessup Brothers, the contractors: "We were very impressed with the system, it saved us time and required no additional insulation".

"We believe it has great potential and we will certainly be using it again".

Brick and block cavity wall construction was used for the houses, with Celcon Standard blocks with the Thin-Joint System, also an MMC, being used for the inner leafs of the exterior walls.

Bucklands End is a flagship regeneration project for the City of Birmingham, which will ultimately rebuild or replace 350 defective post-war homes.
