A first-time user of Celcon aircrete blocks has cut his usual build time by 30%, as well as requiring less manpower, for a development of nine flats in Derby.

The three-storey block has three flats on each floor and a lift shaft down the centre Celcon Hi-7 aircrete blocks 100mm thick and of 610mm x 215mm face size were used for the inner skin with brick cladding and a pitched, tiled roof

Bison beam and block concrete flooring was used, with each 1200mm wide, 200mm thick beam resting directly on the Celcon aircrete inner skin.

Comments Yan Wosik of Petedale Developments: "Using Celcon aircrete was much easier than using dense aggregate blocks".

"It was faster and saved on manpower, making a big difference to the overall success of this project".

"The blocks are so much easier to handle than heavy, dense aggregate".

"You make much more progress in any given timeframe without realising it".

"And Celcon aircrete also helped with both thermal and acoustic insulation, so achieving the Building Regulations was not a problem".

The combination of Celcon blocks' moisture resistance, strength and thermal insulation means that they can be used for the external leaves as well as the internal leaves of a cavity wall.

Celcon blocks provide solutions for most types of building from residential to commercial and industrial.
