Edited by the Buildingtalk editorial team May 20, 2008

H+H UK, manufacturer of aircrete products including Celcon Blocks, scored very highly in The Sunday Times Best Green Companies Awards.

H+H UK was one of only four building materials companies to make the top 50 and achieved 7th position among all companies in the South East region and 32nd position nationally.

A survey of employees, which formed part of the award scheme, showed that employees think H+H UK does everything it can to minimise its environmental impact, earning it green scores of 72%.

Employees also said people in their team think green (79%), believe the firm is reducing its environmental impact (78%) and that managing director Mark Oliver is open to suggestions for further eco improvements (77%).

H+H UK was one of the first manufacturers in the construction industry to achieve BSI accreditation for its Integrated Management System which pulls together three individual management systems for environment (ISO 14001), quality (ISO 9001) and health and safety (OHSAS 18001).

H+H UK was also the first company in the pre-cast concrete industry to achieve accreditation under the Energy Efficiency Accreditation Scheme (EEAS), the UK's independent benchmark for energy efficiency.

The Sunday Times Best Green Companies Awards, designed with environmental consultants Bureau Veritas and data analysts Munro Global, is set to become the benchmark against which corporate environmental performance, and the engagement of work forces with green policies, will be judged.
