Hidrostal's specialist pump hire service was recently deployed by Barhale Construction to assist in the restoration of the water supply to a major reservoir in the South of England after serious disruption was caused to the existing intake supply route.

Hidrostal's over-pumping solution provided a quick bypass system to the existing route enabling the contractor to commence repairs without delay.

Barhale Construction were contracted to undertake the major repair project.

The plan was to build a temporary road and put an over-pumping system in place whilst both the original road and the intake supply were repaired.

Hidrostal's specialist hire service was chosen to provide the over-pumping solution.

The requirement was to over-pump at maximum capacity (100 mg/litres day) against a nominal total head of 20m from the limited opening in the existing shaft.

The Hidrostal equipment proposed consisted: Duty Pump 1 x 400kw electric self-priming pump, 17m static head Standby Pump 1 x diesel self-priming pump.

Barhale's Contracts Manager, Peter Marchant, summarises: 'The solution and equipment supplied by Hidrostal is working extremely well.

All major pump suppliers were contacted, but only Hidrostal were able to provide a solution that would pump at maximum capacity in the limited space available in the existing shaft.

What is more, the over-pumping system was operational in less than four weeks from contract award'.
