House building, estate regeneration and property refurbishment company Higgins Group PLC confirms plans to relocate to a purpose-built headquarters.

House building, estate regeneration and property refurbishment company Higgins Group PLC confirms plans to relocate to a purpose-built headquarters now under construction in Loughton, Essex to initially accommodate 300 people of the three operating divisions The move follows 10 years of remarkable growth for the business, during which Group turnover has quadrupled from the £40 million reported in 1993

In fact, the Higgins Group reported record results for the latest financial year-ending 31 July 2003, with sales increasing by almost 50% to £166 million (2002 - £114 million) and pre-tax profits rising to £8.4 million (2002 - £5.4 million).

The new four-storey building is designed by David Wood Architects with energy efficiency high on the agenda for the heating, cooling and ventilation of the 4,000 sq m floor space.

Technical features of the sustainable design include: • Heat recovery on air plant.

* Daylight controlled electric lighting.

* A well insulated fa?ade.

* Free cooling for most of the year using outside air supplied directly into the building.

* Reduced cooling capacity for peak lopping when the outside air temperature exceeds 20§C.

* External shading.

* High efficiency modular boilers and variable speed pumping to heat emitters.

* Night time pre-cooling of exposed concrete soffit.

"As a leading builder of energy-efficient buildings for the work place and home, of course, sustainable design had to be the top priority for our own new headquarters," said founding Joint-Chairman Derek Higgins OBE.

"This is a very exciting milestone for the company's growth, and in very challenging times as the entire industry looks to modern methods of construction." The building will be occupied in two phases, the first phase to provide over 4,000 sq m of floor space in the spring of 2005.

When the second phase is complete, the building will provide 10,000 sq m of floor space.
