Higgins Construction to create 31 new eco-homes for mixed-tenure for the ARAWAK division of Presentation Social Investment Agency.

Higgins Construction PLC confirms it has taken possession of a 1/3-acre pub demolition site this week in Croydon for a GBP3.67 million development by the ARAWAK division of Presentation Social Investment Agency, to create 31 new eco-homes for mixed-tenure.

The specification for 30 flats, one house and a shop within one five-storey max-height block has already been given an official "excellent" assessment for energy efficiency, by including measures to generate 10% of its own energy.

Whilst Higgins awaits planning approval of final design adaptations, the team led by contracts manager Daniel Barker expects to begin construction on site in February 2006.

There is a special planning requirement for the new development to include a permanent public art feature, which could relate to two famous McKenzie boxing brothers who ran a fight arena in the demolished Prince of Wales pub.

Those brothers were British and Commonwealth Light Welterweight Champion, Clinton and three-times world champion Duke, the youngest who is now a familiar TV pundit.

The employer's agent for ARAWAK's development is Calford Seaden.

Consultants are Stock Woolstencroft as architects and Thomasons as structural engineers.
