Hickton assesses hospital fire protection systems
Hickton Clerk of Works has been commissioned by Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust to carry out an inspection of passive fire protection systems.
The inspection is to be carried out at Chapel Allerton Hospital in advance of remedial work carried out by the contractor.
the inspection will ensure that the building achieves FIRAS certified passive fire protection standards.
The hospital has undergone extensive modernisation work over the years, which often involved making apertures in existing walls, floors and ceilings to allow the passage of cabling and trunking.
If any of these apertures are not correctly sealed it can compromise the passive fire protection barriers of the building.
The services carried out by Hickton involved inspecting passive fire protection barriers, such as walls, floors and ceilings, and assessment of fire rated assemblies, such as fire doors to ensure they had adequate smoke and intumescent seals in place.
The hospital remained fully functioning during the work and Hickton's experience of providing a full range of services to the healthcare sector enabled the company to work within the busy environment, safely and without disruption to normal operations.
Hickton also offers a comprehensive range of services for compliance to Part B Fire Safety, Part L Air Tightness and Energy and Part E Acoustic Performance.
Following a final inspection, Hickton ensures that the contractor supplies the client and fire services with fire stopping records, including photographs cross referenced to plans.
