Hills Electrical and Mechanical plc has been awarded a new enhanced framework alliance agreement by BAA covering its four airports in the south east of England.

The new agreement means Hills becomes a first tier contractor responsible for mechanical and electrical maintenance and installation projects valued up to £2 million at Heathrow, Gatwick, Stansted and Southampton Airports The new agreement is expected to be worth up to ?5M a year to Hills

"We are delighted by this new agreement.

It adds to our current alliance with BAA, allowing us to work on individual projects up to £2m," says Hills' National FM Executive Roy Carter.

"We believe that by doing this BAA has strengthened its supply chain by upgrading to a company known and trusted by them, with nine years of airport experience, and who will, as always, continue to deliver a first class product." Hills was originally awarded a five year BAA framework agreement when the airport operator took the innovative step of moving from competitive tender to long term partnering back in 1996.

Hills was then given responsibility for internal maintenance and small works valued up to £100,000 - this limit was subsequently increased to £250,000 and the contract extended to cover relamping at Gatwick airport.

Hills will be taking on additional directly employed staff at Heathrow, Gatwick and Stansted to carry out the maintenance and project work.
