Over 120 Hills Electrical and Mechanical staff and suppliers refused to let gale force winds and rain dampen their enthusiasm at the first Hills First Choice Association annual conference.

Held at Hawkstone Park in Shropshire last month, the weekend event combined business meetings with a range of exciting activities designed to reinforce the ties between Hills and its key suppliers The First Choice conference enabled Hills regional centre managers and project managers discuss the latest electrical and mechanical installation technologies with leading manufacturers and wholesalers

But by holding the conference in an informal setting, away from the pressures of work, the focus of the weekend was very much on getting to know new people, relaxing and having fun.

Hills took over all 66 rooms at the Hawkstone Park, an 18th century Grade I listed building set in 400 acres of parkland, to accommodate all the guests and their families, who were also invited to take part.

The weekend included a four-ball golf tournament on one of Hawkstone Park's three golf courses, the individual prize being won by Hills' Edinburgh Regional Centre Manager Martin Meehan and the team prize by Steve Goldsworthy of Operational Resources and Liverpool Regional Centre Manager Matthew Egan.

All the players had to overcome terrible weather conditions, and the match only just finished before the course was closed on safety grounds! Also on offer were shopping expeditions to nearby Chester and a range of outdoor activities including archery, clay pigeon shooting and off road driving.

A group of adults and children also enjoyed a memorable visit to nearby Hoo Farm, where they saw several lambs being born.

An informal dinner and exhibition was held in the hotel main dining room on the Saturday night, followed by entertainment and a disco.

Despite the strong winds that threatened to carry off the marquee and occasional horizontal rain showers, guests enjoyed the full range of activities, and the inaugural First Choice Conference was hailed as a success by Hills and First Choice members alike.

Hills' First Choice Association was launched in October 2002 to develop Hills' supply chain partnerships and promote the use within the company of quality, value for money, innovative products and working methods.

Leading brand manufacturers who have excellent products and forward-looking development programmes are eligible to join the scheme.

To assist these companies make themselves and their products known to Hills project managers and engineers nationwide, First Choice members are invited to regular update meetings to exchange intelligence about forthcoming projects.

They also have access the BATTLE Bus, Hills' a luxury double decker coach that houses a mobile presentation suite and travels the country to see clients from all sectors with 'The Vision', a presentation on the future of building services installations.
