Hills Electrical and Mechanical plc has completed a highly energy efficient building services installation at a new mother and baby unit for female prisoners at HMP Askham Grange near York.
Only security systems installed by NSI approved contractors are acceptable to the police for remote monitoring, and many insurance companies, specifiers and consulting engineers insist on NACOSS Gold contractors.
It is now estimated that 80% of electronic security contracts (by value) are awarded to NSI approved companies.
Securing NACOSS Gold involved three company inspections by the NSI, and HIS manager Scott Earing said securing NSI NACOSS Gold had been a rigorous process.
"It took us 18 months to put the infrastructure in place and write the manuals to achieve ISO 9001," he says.
"All our staff also had to be security screened and their competence in security systems verified." NACOSS Gold also requires the company to meet financial criteria to establish its stability, have been trading for at least two years, have sufficient insurance cover, have suitable business premises and vehicles and provide 24 hour emergency cover.
HIS directly employs eight staff and has 120 indirect employees, enabling it to offer a national service covering all Hills Regional Centres.
HIS is part of Hills Group and is based in Manchester.
In addition to security systems, HIS installs all types of fire alarm and access control systems and has begun the process of securing NSI Fire Gold approval for fire detection and suppression systems.
