New storage facility for polypipe

A Dexion-PSS product story
Edited by the Buildingtalk editorial team Jan 6, 2009

HiLo-PSS quality racking systems has provided Polypipe Bathroom and Kitchen Products with the optimum solution for storing products.

Part of Polypipe Building Products, Polypipe Bathroom and Kitchen Products, a leading manufacturer of bathroom and kitchen products, has recently relocated the manufacture of its Celmac range of products from Denton to a new facility in Dunkinfield, Cheshire.

In order to accommodate the diversity of products, Polypipe needed to totally reconfigure the production area, warehousing and distribution facilities.

In order to create more space for incoming bulk goods and raw materials such as plastic powders stored in Octabin containers, HiLo-PSS needed to maximise the storage and warehousing area by specifying a wide, narrow aisle and drive-in racking systems.

For bulk storage of finished goods HiLo-PSS recommended a mix of narrow aisle racking inline with the main entrance doors, with drive-in racking up against the back wall.

The narrow-aisle racking enabled Polypipe to increase the facility's storage capability by reducing the number of access aisles and store pallets whilst providing Polypipe with the infrastructure for fast, efficient order picking.

Although offering slower handling throughput, the drive-in racking has supplied Polypipe with maximum high-density cubic storage for limited stock ranges and identical pallet loads.

Together the two racking systems have proved Polypipe the ideal scenario for handling fast moving bulk and palletised products.
