Tune Into Halfen - For Vibration-Free Fixing
Halfen, the UK leading supplier of channel-based fixings for the building and construction industries, have the ready-made answer to new Control Of Vibration at Work Regulations.
All four cores are clad in high quality precast concrete panels, designed, manufactured and installed by Malling Products .
Normally, securing cladding panels to concrete core walls requires the provision of pockets in the structure to allow access from behind and separate working drawings are required for virtually every cleat connection.
However, Halfen's FPA system provided a simple, off-the-shelf solution.
The system is designed to enable pre-cast concrete cladding panels to be hung from the top, thus eliminating all forces caused by differential movement and making site installation quick and easy.
Just two fixings were needed to suspend each panel, some of which were just over 10 metres long and five tonnes in weight.
The FPA hanger is fixed above each panel so there is no need to work in the cavity.
The fixings were secured to the structure by means of Halfen channel cast into the reinforced concrete stair cores.
In some cases, Halfen supplied brackets to adapt the FPA system so that it could be bolted to the steel frame.
Halfen also designed bespoke central restraints to prevent the panels from bowing.
At roof level, the precast panels were supported on Halfen's innovative WPA coping system, which uses a threaded dowel and tapped plate, enabling continuity of insulation without the risk of cold bridging.
