Halfen high performance and extremely versatile stainless steel cast-in channels meets demands at Manchester City Arts Gallery.

The high load demands and close edge distances posed by the aesthetics of the new cladding for the refurbished and extended Manchester City Arts Gallery have been easily met thanks to Halfen's high performance and extremely versatile stainless steel cast-in channels.

Designed by prominent architect Michael Hopkins and Partners, the exterior of the new gallery uses both stone and glass cladding.

Halfen's 52/34 stainless steel channels and supports were specified to support the high loads close to the edge of the slab.

The products have been used to provide a safe, reliable and cost-effective fixing around the perimeters to the in-situ slabs.

In addition, precast frame contractor, SCC, has also used a number of channels for casting into the concrete columns.

The Senior Surveyor on the project for SCC, Jim Dirkin, said: "We use Halfen channels for virtually everything we build, knowing them to be completely reliable and economic".

"In this instance, Halfen channels were cast into all of our precast units being installed around the outside shell of the building to receive glazed or stone cladding".

"The contract has gone very well and we have had no problems with the channels.".
