Precast concrete cladding panels can be simply and cost-effectively supported by Halfen's FPA system.

Precast concrete cladding panels on the stylish Siebel building adjacent to the M25 at Runnymede have been simply and cost-effectively supported by Halfen's FPA system.

The precast panels, produced by Trent Concrete, measure 3 metres by 3 metres and weigh in excess of 2.5 tonnes each.

They had to be fixed back to an in situ concrete wall, which forms part of the property's main structural frame.

Normally this would require the provision of pockets in the structure to allow access from behind and separate working drawings are required for virtually every cleat connection, which would then have to be carefully fixed back, levelled and shimmed Halfen's FPA system, however, provided a simple, easy to adjust, off-the-shelf solution avoiding the expense of shimming.

The system is designed to enable precast concrete cladding panels to be hung from the top, thus eliminating all forces caused by differential movement and making site installation quick and easy.

Just two 34 kN fixings were needed to suspend each panel, the FPA hangers being fixed above panels obviating the need to work in the cavity.

Halfen also supplied some 60 linear metres of its plasma cut, curved on plan brickwork support angle to carry panels of masonry across areas of the front elevation of the John Seifert Partnership designed project.

Alan Baxter Associates were the engineers, with Lovell Construction acting as main contractor.

Precast cladding panels were supplied by Trent Concrete .
