Halfen HDB System obviates the need for
pile caps

Halfen's HDB system is now being used to provide major time and cost savings in ground slab construction.

Originally designed as punching shear reinforcement for column heads, Halfen's HDB system is now being used to provide major time and cost savings in ground slab construction This new application enables piles to be linked directly to floor slabs in many cases without the need for pile caps

The HDB system comprises high strength reinforcing steel bars with hot-forged studs at both ends linked together in two- or three-stud elements by means of spacer bars.

Accurately placed in a radial pattern around the pile and within the reinforcing cage using clip bars, the HDB units counter the sheer stress at the head of the pile, enabling the slab to rest directly on the pile.

The system may also be used to counter the effect of punching shear stress where the loading is imposed from the other direction; for example, where a column occurs in the middle of a floor slab, the system may obviate the need for piling beneath the column.

In addition, the HDB system may be used instead of links in a wide variety of details, bringing the advantages of easy scheduling and simple placement.

In some civil works, the double-headed studs can also provide the additional advantages of positive bonding and minimal cover compared to links.

Halfen HDB double-headed studs are made in a full range of lengths in 10 mm increments so that whatever the slab design thickness, the studs can line through with the top and bottom steel. Request a free brochure from Halfen ...
