Halfen punches its weight on Finchley
Road project

Halfen's HDB Punching Shear Reinforcement system is playing a crucial role in the construction of two multi-storey apartment buildings in Finchley Road, North London A Regime Development project with YJ Lovell as main contractor, the six- and seven-storey apartment buildings employ a concrete flat slab construction with slabs supported on reinforced concrete columns

Structural engineers Elliott Wood Partnership, reinforced concrete frame contractor Getjar and Halfen's technical team worked together to decide the best way to prevent punching shear at column heads without resorting to downstand beams, column heads or thickened floors.

In the event, Halfen's HDB Punching Shear Reinforcement system was selected as offering the best solution.

It comprises ribbed bars which are forged to make double-headed studs that provide virtually slip-free shear head reinforcement with excellent anchorage.

Spacer bars enable the two- or three-stud elements to be simply dropped into place in the reinforcing cage.

The project features rectangular columns 600 mm x 215 mm and a small number of 250 mm diameter circular columns, with a general slab thickness of 300 mm.

Calculations were made to ensure that both types of column were suitably reinforced with sufficient safety factors. Request a free brochure from Halfen ...
