Threaded couplers adapted for balcony
connection

Engineers Arup enlisted Halfen's help when they needed to connect steel balconies back to floor slabs on the impressive Celestia residential development in Cardiff Bay, being built by Laing O'Rourke for Redrow Homes (South Wales) to designs by Stride Treglown Davies Halfen's solution was their HBM coupler with longer length heads to ensure adequate penetration without the risk of 'bottoming'
These were welded together in sets of four to save setting out time on site and to ensure accurate alignment with predetermined holes in the balcony steelwork.
L-bars were used to link the couplers in the reinforcement cage to ensure the sockets remained 'dead' (i.e without springback) once the welding template was removed.
Halfen's HBM threaded coupler system is more usually employed for rebar-to-rebar continuity connections, but the Celestia project proves the product's versatility. Request a free brochure from Halfen ...
