Extensive development work has led to the launch of a new automatic door closer which addresses many of the shortcomings and complexities associated with other, more expensive units.

The Evolution is now available from door systems specialist Hillaldam Coburn and is considered an ideal solution to compliance with the Disability Discrimination Act in a wide variety of situations.

Measuring just 545 mm long with a cross section of 110 x 120 mm, the Evolution is not only compact but incorporates a lot of the functions which would normally be required to be installed separately.

The IP22 rated unit will act as a conventional door closer for free access by the able bodied, but then provides automatic operation at the touch of a button for wheelchair users or others requiring mechanical assistance.

Featuring a built in encoder as opposed to conventional switching, the Evolution does not require the use of separate safety systems or a programmer.

Importantly the Evolution features integral anti-crush protection, based on an intelligent current sensor.

Once an obstruction has been detected, the unit's encoder remembers its position and adjusts the movement of the door accordingly on following cycles until overridden.

With the motor powered by a standard 230 volt supply, the opening and closing speed is adjustable while the opening time can be set between one and 20 seconds, or stepped.

The anodised aluminium casing can be supplied polyester powder coated in any colour the customer requires.

Door widths of up to 1400 mm and leaf weights up to 259 kG can be accommodated.

Coburn considers that schools, hospitals, shops and offices or any other public building where disabled access must be provided are likely locations for the Evolution.
