HLM submits eco school design for approval

A HLM Architects product story
Edited by the Buildingtalk editorial team Sep 21, 2009

HLM Architects has presented an environmentally friendly design for the planning approval of Brannel School in Cornwall.

HLM submitted the designs for the new Brannel School to replace the existing buildings which were beyond repair.

The new facilities are intended to achieve an Excellent BREEAM rating on its completion ready for the 2011 academic year.

The development will cause minimum disruption as the new buildings will be constructed away from the current school, on the playing fields behind.

A small section of the existing school will be retained and refurbished into a sports changing facilities, a staff work base and fitness centre.

The designs were presented to members of the public by director of HLM, Caroline Buckingham, along with the head teacher of the school.

Caroline commented, "The designs are intended to provide flexible accommodation to allow for the inevitable changes that will occur during the building's lifetime.

ICT infrastructure will be integrated throughout the new facilities to enable personalised learning and to take advantage of new classroom technology as it emerges".
