The World Peace Flame Monument, together with the adjoining Candle Room, have been designed by a young architect and feature ThermoSpan units manufactured by HansenGlass.

The World Peace Flame Monument, together with the adjoining Candle Room, have been designed by a young architect involved in voluntary work for the foundation, and feature the use of 12mm as well as 10mm ThermoSpan units manufactured by HansenGlass.

Project Architect Rika Lukac, comments: "There are two reasons why we choose screen printed glass, first of all, since the monument is situated in the majestic beauty of Snowdonia National Parc we wanted the monument as light and transparent as possible; secondly, we didn't want the words on the monument to take priority over the flame.

I found HansenGlass after a literature search and the company was able to provide everything we wanted." The installation of the ThermoSpan units carrying their Ceraphic screen-printed decoration was carried out at the foundation's headquarters near Bethesda, Gwynedd, by Bennett Architectural Aluminium Solutions Limited.

The company, a regular customer of HansenGlass, employed the glazing manufacturer's special patch bolted fittings to assemble the ThermoSpan units and connect them to the main steel tower which surrounds the Peace Flame.

While this monument features the use of the 10mm thick toughened glass units, the specification switched to 12mm ThermoSpan units for constructing the gable end wall to the Candle Room.

Jason Eggerton of Bennett Architectural Aluminium Solutions, comments: "We worked closely with HansenGlass to produce the detailed design for the monument, then employed all of the manufacturer's screen printed units and N40 metal fittings in its assembly.

The contract went very well.".
