Hunter Douglas ceiling transforms shopping centre

A Hunter Douglas Construction Elements product story

One of the key elements of the re-design of The Kingfisher Centre, Redditch was to mask the existing roof structure by installing a Luxalon aluminium open cell ceiling from Hunter Douglas.

The Kingfisher Centre, Redditch has recently undergone a major facelift as part of the town center's renaissance.

One of the key elements of the re-design was to mask the existing roof structure by installing a Luxalon aluminium open cell ceiling from Hunter Douglas.

The existing roof comprised glazing lights above a space frame which was aesthetically unappealing and non load-bearing.

In contrast, the new Luxalon ceiling system, specified by MA Design of Coventry, is lightweight, attractive and allows the natural light to filter through.

It is based on the Hunter Douglas Luxalon Cell T15 system which is an open cell system that allows lighting, smoke detectors and sprinklers to be concealed within the void.

Comprising aluminium U-profiles fitting on to a 15 mm wide T-grid, the 1500m2 ceiling has a monolithic appearance while allowing easy access to services within the plenum.

The rectangular panels measure 1200 x 600mm and are finished in white, selected from the wide choice of colours featured by the Luxalon portfolio.

Both square or rectangular cell modules are available, all made to measure for individual projects, broadening the design options on offer.

The Luxalon Cell T15 system offers a wide range of advantages for architects and building users.

The system is an excellent solution for areas that require suspended ceilings but need to retain the original room volume for air conditioning or fire safety.

The system also offers outstanding durability and the added benefit of excellent acoustic properties.
