College chooses solid wood ceilings

A Hunter Douglas Construction Elements product story
Edited by the Buildingtalk editorial team Mar 3, 2008

Hunter Douglas solid wood ceilings have helped to transform the campus accommodation at Leicester College.

The grill ceiling system in Ash was installed as part of the college's GBP44 million accommodation project.

A total of 80m2 of ceiling was fitted in the main entrance lobby and reception area to create a warm, inviting and natural aura.

The ceiling has also provided a visual cut off for the services within the void.

Circular compact florescent down lighters were integrated into the system to enhance the high levels of natural daylight entering through the glazed entrance and skylights.

The system was clipped to natural coloured suspension dowels and clips to achieve a seamless appearance.

Every panel is easily demountable to give easy access for access to HandV and lighting systems in the plenum.

The architects chose Ash from the wide range of species in the solid wood collection.

With their great versatility, the ceilings enable architects to realise their most innovative design concepts, with curved or undulating ceiling designs also possible.

Hunter Douglas solid wood systems have many advantages compared to conventional wooden solutions.

They feature a higher quality finish, no visible fixings and no warping or twisting of the panels due to environmental conditions.

Their unique design lends itself to fast installation and Acoustic and Fire Rated versions are also available.

The architect was Bond Bryan Architects of Sheffield and the ceiling contractor was Neo Interiors of Northampton.
