16, Guidance for the Effective Sealing of End Lap Details in Metal Roofing Constructions, was published in February 2004.
The scope of this research project was to identify best practice and materials for providing an effective weather seal across a range of typical external metal to metal and metal to GRP rooflight end lap details, for through fix built-up and sandwich panel roofing systems.
Trials showed that significant improvements can be made over many of the existing recommendations and current industry practices in respect of the effective weather sealing of typical 150mm end lap (and side lap) details by the use of 6mm x 5mm, 6mm or 8mm bead sealant.
Rooflight end lap sealing could also be enhanced by supporting the point of entry of the fixing using a 18 x 4mm, or 22 x 5mm U section of sealant.
The NFRC Technical Bulletin 36, Performance Standards for Butyl Strip Sealants in Metal Clad Buildings, describes the test methods used to establish fitness for purpose for butyl strip sealants used in roofing and cladding.

Copies of the Technical papers can be obtained directly from the MCRMA and NFRC.
Hodgson Sealants are pleased to offer sealant solutions to comply from the HP Series Industrial Strip Sealants range.
