No Need To Ban Smoking Says Honeywell
Electrostatic air cleaners provide the means to banish smoke, not the smokers.
There is no need to impose an outright ban on smoking in public places, says the leading air cleaner manufacturer, Honeywell, which has supplied millions of air cleaners worldwide over 40 years.
The air inside a smokers' pub fitted with Honeywell's high-tech electrostatic air cleaners and adequate ventilation is likely to be much cleaner and healthier than in a typical fume-laden urban street.
The cleaners remove airborne pollutants such as volatile organic compounds, dust, smoke, allergens and viruses, leaving a healthier environment for everyone.
Staffs are happier, less prone to illness and hay fever, and enjoy a smoke-free workplace.
Customers are more comfortable, so stay longer and spend more.
Commenting on the announcement that smoking will be banned in public places, Honeywell's Business Development Manager for Air Cleaners, Joyce Fraczek, said: "We have long proposed a 'middle way' of tolerance towards smokers through provision of designated smoking areas where practicable and always provided adequate air cleaning and ventilation is installed.
The air cleaners provide a cleaner atmosphere that allows smokers and non-smokers to meet without discomfort and alienation." Millions of Honeywell air cleaners are in daily use worldwide, in cafes, bars, restaurants, offices, hotels, leisure centres and other venues.
"Honeywell isn't condoning smoking, but we can help with the smoke problem," said Ms Fraczek.
"This reliable, well-proven air cleaning technology has already proved excellent news for many venue operators who were uncertain whether to allow smoking, in which case non-smokers may avoid them, or to ban smoking and so alienate smokers with their friends, families and colleagues.
"Air cleaners provide the means to banish smoke, not the smokers, so venue operators really can have it both ways," she said.
"Properly-sited and correctly-sized electrostatic air cleaners will clean the air to an acceptable level.
"Honeywell does not promote smoking," stressed Ms Fraczek.
"It operates a strict non-smoking policy in the workplace and provides smoking rooms fitted with air cleaners in all its main UK premises." Electrostatic air cleaners clean work in two ways.
First, larger particles are trapped by a mesh filter.
The remaining tiny particles then receive an electrostatic charge and are attracted onto aluminium plates, like iron filings onto a magnet.
The cleaned air is recirculated by high efficiency fans, the design of the units ensuring an effective air distribution pattern which offers excellent cleaning efficiency whilst minimising draughts.
Honeywell makes surface-mounted models in various styles and sizes for walls and ceilings, recessed cleaners for false ceilings and even portable cleaners that can be moved from room to room.
