Heating installer races and wins with Honeywell

A Honeywell Control Systems product story

Honeywell is leading the Uniroyal Fun Cup motor racing series again this season after winning the contest outright in 2006, earning the coveted number "1" on its car this season.

Heating installer Neil Plimmer and his driving partner Geoff Fawcett again share driving in the races, which feature regularly on Sky Sports TV.

"They are endurance races on major circuits including Brands Hatch and Snetterton, complete with pit stops, driver changes, refuelling and all the drama of Formula One," explains Neil.

"But unlike Formula One, the races are totally the test of drivers' and pit crews' skills.

All cars are built to a single specification with 130bhp VW/Audi engines".

"2007 is the ninth consecutive year of our association with Honeywell, the leading controls company," says Neil, who runs Brian Plimmer Plumbing and Heating Engineers, based in Pontefract West Yorkshire.

"Honeywell backed us initially in National Formula Ford and continued its support when we switched to the Uniroyal Fun Cup in 2002.

"The cars may have VW Beetle-styled bodies, but that's where the similarity to a road car ends," reveals Neil.

"They are real racing cars with a tubular chassis, GPR body, central driving position and mid-mounted engine with rear-wheel drive".

To ensure car performances are the same, the engines and gearboxes are sealed to prevent tampering and they use identical Uniroyal tyres.

Fellow heating installers and plumbers are welcome to cheer Neil and Geoff at their races throughout the season, or to follow their progress on Sky TV.
