Honeywell welcomes the Boiler Scrappage Scheme for householders and installers to make a difference to energy consumption and costs, and carbon emissions.

Government figures show that heating and hot water accounts for 85 per cent of domestic energy consumption.

In addition, Honeywell points out that 81/2 million homes do not have a room thermostat yet turning a thermostat down by 1C reduces heating bills by 10 per cent.

Industry testing shows that modern Time Proportional Integral (TPI) thermostats can also save up to 10 per cent over a traditional mechanical thermostat.

The Government has set aside GBP50m to enable grants to be available to 125,000 homes that still have an old inefficient G rated boiler.

Homeowners can register for the scheme on the Energy Saving Trust (EST) website to secure a boiler grant.

When the work is completed within 12 weeks, send the proof of the work to EST which will issue a cheque.

The Boiler Scrappage Scheme is open to anyone who replaces an inefficient band G boiler.
