A Howarth Timber product story
Edited by the Buildingtalk editorial team Sep 1, 2010

Sustainable timber products have been supplied and installed in social housing bungalows in North Shields by Howarth Timber Engineering.

Built by main contractor Surgo Construction, the homes were specified with soffits and fascia boards, insulated structural spandrel wall panels and engineered timber joists all supplied and installed by Howarth Timber.

The project had a timeframe of 28 weeks in which to clear the site and construct the new homes.

Howarth Timber Engineering rose to this challenge by condensing its lead time by four weeks in order to help Surgo Construction meet its deadlines.

Access and egress to site presented further challenges but, through careful management and coordination throughout the construction process, the project was completed successfully and ahead of schedule.

Commissioned by Nomad Housing Group, total build costs for the project was GBP1.13m and the homes are now occupied.

Howarth Timber Engineering is a specialist business within the Howarth Timber Group, the UK's largest privately owned timber group.

With full Chain of Custody accreditation, the company serves an extensive customer base within the construction sector, including architects, contractors and self-builders.
