New Guidance On Accident Investigation
The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has published new guidance on how to investigate accidents and incidents, including near misses.
Speaking about his new role, Mr Podger who is 53 years old, said: " I am delighted to be given the chance to lead the HSE.
I regard the work of both the Health and Safety Commission (HSC) and the Executive as being an important component of a civilised society, providing a considerable service to the community".
"And I look forward to working with colleagues within HSE and HSC to continue to deliver improvements in health and safety." Prior to his role at the EFSA in 2003, Geoffrey Podger was chief executive of the Food Standards Agency (FSA) from its inception in 2000.
Before this he spent 18 years in the Department of Health, and the then Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food.
Having arrived back in the UK from his previous role at the EFSA last week, he isn't fazed by the cold weather and is pleased to be back on home ground: "The nice thing about coming back to your own country is that things are inevitably easier".
"You can go into shops and find exactly what you want".
"Another great thing about London is its many theatres, exhibitions and galleries.".
