Hulley and Kirkwood - a winning team
Hulley and Kirkwood clinch first place in charity White Water Rafting event.
Hulley and Kirkwood always knew they were a winning team but it became official when they clinched first place in a charity White Water Rafting event on 30th September.
Organised by Lace Market Properties, the race took place at the National Water Sports Centre in Nottingham, and consisted of 16 rafts all racing for that number one slot.
Team Hulley and Kirkwood, who consisted of Lei Fan, Stephen Harris, David Kinnell and John Taylor, all from Hulley and Kirkwood's Birmingham office, were helped out by the youth of Stephen's 16 year old nephew, Daniel Aston, who worked for Hulley and Kirkwood on a summer placement last year.
The team got off to a speedy start and kept up their pace throughout the tough 2 hour event.
Each raft had to contend with fast flowing water and hair-raising rapids and was not for the faint hearted.
Team member, Stephen Harris, commented on the race: 'Our practice laps were not a resounding success and we didn't hold out much hope of taking the lead.
We soon found our feet during the actual race and being 3 men down must have had its advantages.
We were delighted to pick up the winning trophy and all for a good cause.' Lace Market Properties raised GBP4,000 in total.
GBP2,000 of which was kindly donated to Skylarks, a local charity who provide breaks for the mentally and physically disabled.
A further GBP2,000 was donated to the British Canoe Foundation.
