Hulley and Kirkwood are in the final stages of completion of the first in a series of unique multi-functional apartments.
The apartments, currently being erected in Manchester City Centre, are due for completion in December this year and were designed by BDP Architects on behalf of Abito, a subsidiary of Ask Property Developments.
The apartments are cheaper than a conventional one bedroom flat, with the concept being based around clutter-free living space for today's young professionals.
Each apartment is fitted with a fold-away bed and a central storage pod which includes a bathroom, utility space and a kitchen.
All apartments have their own balcony which makes use of a floor to ceiling window to allow maximum light penetration.
Hulley and Kirkwood were involved in the initial research and development of the concept study apartment which resulted in a full size mock up being constructed.
Their involvement was extended to provide detailed design at initial planning and tender stages, as well as technical MandE assistance throughout the development of the project.
David Livingston, Director at Hulley and Kirkwood said: "I loved the concept of intelligent living space, designed to reflect today's lifestyles and the opportunity to be involved in such a unique development was both exciting and enjoyable".
"Due to the compact living space within each apartment, natural light and service distribution were the emphasis of the MandE design for this project".
Hulley and Kirkwood are providing similar technical MandE assistance for a new Abito development being erected in Salford Quays, due for completion in March 2008.
Hulley and Kirkwood have extensive experience working on numerous residential projects such as SLAM MOD Barracks - UK wide, Quartermile - Edinburgh, Blenheim Centre - Hounslow, Kings Waterfront - Liverpool and Cormorant Wharf - Gibraltar.
