Plugs for the leak testing of foul water pipe-work

A Huntingdon Fusion Techniques product story
Edited by the Buildingtalk editorial team Sep 16, 2008

New Drain Plugs for leak testing pipe joints, pipe-work and pipelines used for foul water drainage are now available from the Pipestoppers Division of Huntingdon Fusion Techniques Limited (HFT).

This type of leak testing is carried out to ensure that foul water does not leak into dwellings, factories, other properties or into the ground water system.

The new plugs are made in extra sizes to cater for the variety of materials and types of pipe being developed and used for foul water drainage and they meet all the requirements for pressure testing standard domestic and industrial foul water systems.

Pipestoppers Drain Plugs are expandable over a range, to be able to fit all available internal diameters of pipe and all different materials: the new range for foul water pipes includes 3.5, 4, 4.5, 5, 5.5, 6 and 7 so that there is a total overlap.

Smaller plugs are also available from 0.5 upwards and large ones from 6 up to 72 diameter.

Each plug has a hollow centred drain shaft with a threaded outside to allow easy connection of standard hose connectors for pressure testing or controlled drainage.

A natural rubber ring is compressed between two plates, fitted over the central shaft, tightened by a wing nut that screws down on the threaded shaft, to ensure a good leak tight pressure seal.

Plug materials range from nylon for the small sizes and aluminium and steel for the larger sizes.

These products are all easy to use, made from corrosion resistant materials and are durable.

HFT has focused on developing new production methods for these plugs to ensure that the prices remain the lowest available.

Where weight and entry difficulties might be a consideration, HFT also manufactures a complete range of Inflatable Stoppers for use in pipes from 1-80 diameter.
