Reclaimed ceramics in Hampton Court competition
Hye Oak's reclaimed ceramic aggregate received broad acclaim when it was employed by one of the exhibitors to win an award at this year's Hampton Court Palace Flower Show.
The children of Challock Primary School in Kent earned a Silver Guilt award for their themed garden which featured imaginative areas of hard landscaping, including pathways laid using the Hye Oak Traxmax recycled aggregate.
Hye Oak's Managing Director, John Saunders donated four tonnes of the decorative material to the school, which is located not far from the Company's Ashford headquarters, when he heard about its participation in the famous event.
Hye Oak also transported the aggregate, along with the other materials and equipment needed to construct the show garden, direct to the Hampton Court site, west of London.
Unlike most aggregates utilised in landscaping applications, Traxmax is not consuming natural resources, but instead saving waste material from being sent to landfill.
The product's south east based manufacturer takes basins and other scrap sanitaryware, as well as old tiles, from the construction industry and puts them through a crushing process that not only reduces it to a uniform 10 mm size, but removes the sharp edges which could otherwise cause minor cuts.
Once spread the high density of the Traxmax aggregate means it packs down well and does not degrade.
The finished product has a similar appearance to calcined flint which is predominantly white in colour and has a vitreous lustre.
The design for Challock School's show garden set stepping stones bearing the letters of the alphabet against the bright background of Traxmax.
Hye Oak has an exclusive agreement to market the bagged Traxmax material which is made available through a network of distributors in 25 kg bags or one tonne jumbo bags.
