A £220k painting contract, secured by Ian Williams Group, one of the UK's leading property services companies, for the Light Railways East route, which runs into the Olympic bid region, has passed 100% every audit set by Serco Docklands ; operators of the Docklands Light Railway The contract covered the repainting of seven stations and one footbridge on the line

A 14 week deadline was set for completion and Ian Williams Loughton now reports that the contract is about to be completed, on time and on budget.

Grant Christie, Manager of Ian Williams Loughton Office explains some of the challenges they faced: "As you would expect of work of such a critical safety nature, we had to satisfy some very strict procedures every day; all operatives were medically checked, and had to complete specific training to work near the rail tracks".

"We also had to co-ordinate road closures with a variety of local authorities".

"The workforce also needed to run to a 24hr shift system because access to the site was only possible by abseiling or by means of mobile elevated platforms".

Serco conducted the spot check audits on site day and night, assessing Ian Williams's team on all areas of safety and best practice policies".

"Serco is impressed with the workmanship and the outcome of 100% on every audit we carried out," says Kieran Brennan, Deputy Operations Director at Serco.

"We have stringent health and safety procedures that need to be adhered to by anyone carrying out any work on the DLR and the team from Ian Williams, lead by Patrick Mallon, took a professional and quality approach throughout the entire project".

"The outcome of our audits has been impressive, as is the speed in which the work has been carried out.".
