Ian Williams enjoys success again at the 2006 Painting and Decorating Association Awards

June saw Ian Williams enjoy success at the 2006 Painting and Decorating Association (PDA) Trophy Awards for the third year running.

The property services specialist who is also one of the largest painting contractors in the UK, received the following accolades: Very Highly Commended in the Industrial Category for its work on London's Docklands Light Railway Stations; Commended in the Industrial Category for its work on Newbold Leisure Centre in Leamington Spa; and Commended in the Commercial Category for its work on Cranbury Day Centre in Southampton.

Each of the projects presented its own set of challenges, most of which went beyond the successful on time delivery of high quality project specifications.

Through careful planning and strong communication systems, Ian Williams delivered the results by working closely with clients and end users, often in highly sensitive environments.

Mike Turner, Business Development Director of Ian Williams comments: "Take for example, the Cranbury Day Centre.

The centre which caters for homeless people, many of whom are alcohol or drug dependent, had to remain fully operational during our work there.

While our brief was to deliver pre-painting and internal and external painting to individual Day and Residential Centres, we also had to work in such a way that was sensitive to the specific health and safety issues associated with a project like this.

Work on the Docklands Light Railway project within the Olympic bid area provided quite different challenges.

Our team had to go through strict daily checks and procedures as well as undergoing special training as they were working near rail tracks.

Road closures also had to be coordinated with a variety of local authorities, and the workforce needed to run to a 24hr shift system because access to the site was only possible by abseiling or by means of mobile elevated platforms.

The third project for which we were commended, the Newbold Leisure Centre in Leamington Spa, saw our team who were painting the structural steels within the swimming pool hall - which remained full of water during the 8 week programme - exposed to a humidity levels up to 85%.

"We're delighted to have been recognised once again in the PDA awards for the diverse and high quality of work we've carried out over the last 12 months.

This third party endorsement is proof that listening to your clients and end users and really adapting your working practices to suit each individual project really pays off for everyone.".
