Residents Roadshow held by Ian Williams
Roadshow provided residents with a preview of the range of replacement kitchens, bathrooms, boilers and front doors they will receive under the decent homes investment programme.
The property's electrics and heating system were ruined in the blaze too, requiring a full replacement in a contract totalling £60,000.
This was a rare project for Ian Williams and presented some of the most challenging working conditions to date.
Not only were the team working in complete darkness in some areas of the house, they also had to contend with the dirt and health issues of working in a soot filled environment.
To add to the sensitivity of this project, the operators had to act carefully as forensics had been involved to determine the cause of the fire.
It was however, an exemplary case of the work Ian Williams can do in response maintenance.
John Spear from Ian Williams' Reading branch explains: "We did face some specific difficulties with this project - with no electricity, and security shutters closed on the ground floor windows, we were working in almost complete darkness, which can be hazardous".
"Cases like this aren't unusual though".
"We have had many years experience in dealing with response maintenance so know the dangers and tailor each refurbishment to our client's specific needs".
Peter Benstead, Head of Building Surveying at Windsor and District Housing Association comments: "The Ian Williams team did a great job on the property, refurbishing it to a higher standard that it had previously been".
"We will be happy to use Ian Williams again in the future, as we were very happy with the standard of work produced".
Windsor and District Housing Association have since appointed Ian Williams on more of their contracts.
