Council partnering agreement on building works

An Ian Williams product story
Edited by the Buildingtalk editorial team Nov 30, 2007

Reading Borough Council has entered into a partnering agreement with property services expert Ian Williams to help provide maintenance work on its homes.

The contract, worth up to GBP250,000 a year, runs to September 2010 with a possible two-year extension, and will see Ian Williams backing-up the council's own direct labour organisation (DLO) on works such as empty property refurbishment, repairs and decorating.

The move demonstrates the council's commitment to engaging high-quality partners, ensuring tenants have the highest possible standard of service, through both their DLO and a contractor which has extensive experience of maintaining and upgrading properties across the UK.

Kevin Slade, business manager for Ian Williams, said: "This is an important contract for us and we are delighted to be working with, and for, Reading Borough Council.

"We will be liaising closely with the authority's own building surveying and contract teams.

It is a new partnership and one that we hope will develop over the coming years.

"Ensuring adequate capacity to maintain a high level of responsiveness to building works is essential for affordable housing providers.

Customers demand and deserve a top-level service whatever the workload of the organisation.

"Reading Borough Council has demonstrated its commitment to this by engaging Ian Williams to carry out general building works as and when necessary.

We have a proven track record of delivering this type of service, and extensive experience in the sector to ensure jobs are completed on time and to a high standard".

The contract sets out a bespoke schedule of rates for work carried out.

This work could include renovating a void property to bring it back into use, decorating a specific home or carrying out responsive repairs.

Ian Williams already works with numerous local authorities in the UK.
