Step By Step Help Is At Hand With Ibstock
Ibstock has recently launched a new 'Get It Right' guide entitled: 'Steps and Ramps using Clay Bricks and Pavers'.
The architects chose brick for the building as a familiar, solid and secure natural material allowing flexibility for innovation in the design.
This is clearly demonstrated in the drum entrance, grid patterning and textured brick panels.
On the entrance drum, stone from the recently demolished Player Wills factory was included as a remnant of its past, with vertical brick feature areas above and the grid like pattern around the top.
The entrance is accessed through a shared circular drum courtyard and the building provides eight cluster groups of six study bedrooms with shared facilities, communal areas and classrooms on the first floor.
With the south-facing courtyard, one of the principle ideas was to provide an area for maximum social integration to give residents a real sense of homeliness and ownership.
The first project of its kind, St Catharine's Foyer is also the largest public space created in this part of Dublin in recent years.
The project will be officially opened by President Mary McAleese on 4th March 2004.
Bowen Construction Ltd was the main and brickwork contractor.
